Since building and displaying my first few pieces at the cafe, there has been a ton of interest in custom Live Edge pieces. The purpose of this post is to demystify the process and give people an idea of what is possible, and what to expect when ordering a piece of live edge furniture.
The main consideration in ordering any piece from Live Edge Direct is choosing your slab. Once we have a general idea of what you’re looking for, we will send some pictures of what is available, to help create your dream table. Since every piece is one of a kind, new projects will never be exactly the same as something you’d see in the cafe. This is actually a good thing, because each one is a unique piece of art, personalized to your taste. Anything you like can be inlaid into your table, from family keepsakes, to jewelry, stone, shells, marbles, and even things like baby teeth.
Pricing ranges depend on size, type of wood, finish, inlays, and table legs. An example in the lower range would be a table of 4, with minimal inlays and standard legs, for $1000 or less. In the higher range would be a table of 6 to 8, with custom inlays, and stainless steel hairpin legs in the $3000 range.
We are currently working with suppliers for more detailed pricing by board foot on more than a dozen different types of wood. The update will be pricing chart for all woods and seating arrangements from 2 to 12 people.
Ordering is a two step process of selecting your Live Edge slab, then choosing your finish, inlays and legs. When ordering from Live Edge Direct, we require a 50% deposit up front. This is used to secure the rare hardwoods, and other materials used for the project. All of these materials will be itemized on the invoice for the client, with the remaining balance due at pickup. The turnaround on most projects is 30 days or less.
Thank you so much for your interest in Live Edge Direct. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch via phone, email, Facebook, or this website if you have any questions at all.
